About

Multilingual Commons is a space for reflection and conversation around language teaching and learning. Created and managed by Yale’s Center for Language Study, this site builds upon the first CLS blog, which was active between January 2008 and October 2013. At the same time, the name “Multilingual Commons” indicates a renewed sense of purpose at a time when the need for public discussion both about and in multiple languages could not be greater. “Commons,” in a general sense, signifies a collectively shared resource; the word also has specific resonances within the Yale community, as both a physical space where students and faculty engage in free conversation over a meal, and online, where many academic websites are hosted and supported.
